The Book of Knowledge

Shaykh Ibn al-‘Uthaymien may Allaah have mercy on him says (summarized) the following:

“The most virtuous matters that stem from knowledge are the following:

1. Knowledge is the inheritance of the prophets.
2. Knowledge is lasting, while wealth is perishable.
3. The bearer of knowledge does not grow weary in protecting it.
4. The possessor of knowledge will ultimately be among those who are upon the truth and will bear witness to the exclusive right of Allaah to be worshipped.
5. The people of knowledge belong to one of the two types of authorities that Allaah has commanded us to obey.
6. The people of knowledge will remain steadfast upon the command of Allaah until the Hour is established.
7. The Messenger of Allaah never encouraged envying anyone for anything they attained from Allaah except when it concerns two favors:

• The student of knowledge who acts upon his knowledge.
• The merchant who puts his wealth at the service of Islam.

• 8. The virtue mentioned in the narration: “The example of that which Allaah has sent me with of guidance and knowledge is like the example of rain falling upon the earth..”
• 9. – Knowledge is a path that leads to Paradise.
• 10. The virtue that appears in the narration of Mu’aawiyyah: “Whoever Allaah wishes good for, He grants him understanding of the religion.”
• 11. Knowledge is a light with which the servant is guided, knows how to worship his Lord, and how to treat people.
• 12. A scholar is a source of light by which people are guided in their religious and worldly affairs.
• 13. Allaah elevates the bearers of knowledge in both the Hereafter and the worldly life.”
