Knowledge Requires Action

I advise you, O seeker of knowledge, to have a pure intention in the acquisition of knowledge and to exert yourself to the utmost to act in accordance with the knowledge you have gained. Indeed, knowledge is like a tree, and one must view deeds as its fruit. The one who does not act according to his knowledge cannot be seen as a scholar. One should view a person who has collected academic books as someone who has collected silver and gold. Does someone who has collected books not resemble a person who eagerly hunts for silver and gold? Is someone who has a passionate love for books not like someone who possesses a treasure of silver and gold? Just as possessions can only be useful when one actually spends them, so too is knowledge only useful to someone who acts upon it and follows the commandments discussed within it.
