Moroccan Tamegroute pottery plate Ø 20 cm

Moroccan green glazed earthenware plate. A beautiful handmade plate crafted using age-old techniques. The traditional glazing technique involves silicon, manganese, and copper, which, when fired in earth ovens, results in the striking green hue. Sometimes, copper is replaced by iron oxide to achieve a more brown/olive-colored result.

Each piece varies; no two are the same. Bubbles, scratches, color variations in the green, and even small spots in the glaze are to be expected and should be embraced as part of the unique, handmade character of each piece.

dimensions: Ø 24 cm

The characteristic green color of Tamegroute pottery is due to a combination of manganese, silicon, and copper. Although the amount of copper is minimal, it is precisely this ingredient that creates the beautiful green color. Tamegroute is a small village in southern Morocco. The manufacturing of Tamegroute products is known to only 7 families from the village of the same name, Tamegroute. These 7 families each have their own kiln and workshop where they offer their Tamegroute products. Since many products are made and the kilns are not large enough, the products are stacked on top of each other using three-point spacers. This causes the characteristic scar on almost every Tamegroute product.
